SCDF Rolls Out TUMA Sliding Systems Onboard New HazMat Control Vehicle

In April 2018, The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) officially unveiled a new HazMat Control Vehicle (Hazardous Material) known as a Dart Rescue Vehicle (DRV) for its elite rescue team which handles complex rescue and firefighting incidents.
The DRV has a personnel cabin, which allows eight Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (DART) officers to be briefed and suited up en route to rescue operations. If there’s an incident involving hazardous materials, it is important to detect and monitor the spread of toxic gases. For that, drones are needed.
The team is able to launch a drone directly from the HazMat rescue vehicle using a built-in extending platform. The slider used extends to over 150% providing sufficient clearance from the vehicle for the drone to take off safely. The drone can then provide real-time aerial monitoring of the affected area.
The vehicle is also equipped with a portable generator mounted on a pull-out sliding platform that can support up to 500kg in weight. This allows the rescue team to access and store the generator more efficiently and safely thereby reducing the likelihood of injury when compared to lifting such a heavy piece of machinery on and off the vehicle.
Following the successful launch of the HazMat Vehicle, the SCDF are in the process of introducing several more HazMat vehicles to their fleet. All of them are equipped with a sliding drone launch platform and pull-out generator platform.
